The Social Housing Decarbonisation Fund (SHDF) is a government grant that supports social housing providers to improve the energy efficiency of their homes. Government guidelines state that all homes owned and managed by landlords like us need to reach energy band C by 2030 – this funding will help us to achieve that target.
Following surveys by our Energy Surveyor, WarmFront, homes that are under EPC C have been receiving improvement works over the last few years.
In September 2023 we completed ‘Wave 1’ which saw us install external wall insulation to 57 social rent properties, keeping their homes warmer for the winter, and saving the residents money on their heating costs.
We began works for Wave 2 in April 2023. As part of our Greener Herts partnership with B3Living, Dacorum Borough Council and settle, the Wave 2 funding will collectively enable us to make energy efficiency improvements worth more than £40 million in total, helping us to improve over 1,500 homes across Hertfordshire!
We are pleased to say that with just over 70 homes left, we are nearing the end of Wave 2 – by the end of March 2025 (subject to change due to weather) we aim to have completed around 320 homes.
We have already begun surveying homes to establish who will be eligible for the next programme of works, now known as Warm Homes: Social Housing Fund Wave 3.
We are very happy to announce that we won the award for the Greater London Regional Large-Scale Project of the Year alongside our contractors, Kooka and SCIS, at the Energy Efficiency Awards 2024 – this is a great testament to the ongoing success of this project!
