School uniform is expensive at the best of times, and with the cost of living continuing to rise, I’m sure many parents were dreading buying school uniform for the new term.
In order to help local families save some money this summer, we held a week of pop-up shops across Watford for parents to pick up some free school uniform!
Local charity Goods for Good very kindly donated a large number of unbranded cardigans and sweatshirts for us to give out to those most in need, as well as hygiene packs containing shampoo, toilet rolls, shower gel, toothpaste etc. We also had a lot of pre-loved clothing and stationery donated from staff members.
We are pleased to announce that in total we helped around 40 families, which was around 100 children, save money on their school uniform.
We received some lovely comments from parents, including “I can’t believe how much uniform is these days – I have three children and it is so expensive, so just not having to worry about the sweatshirts is a great help” and “I was worrying a lot about getting the kids their uniform and how much it would be, just making a saving by getting the free sweatshirts is a great help to me”.
The stall was run by our amazing Community team – Jean, Community Engagement Officer said, “it was so rewarding seeing mums and dads walking away with a smile on their face, knowing we had made a difference.”
