At some point you may have come across one of our Watford-based community initiatives or groups, such as our Community Chest Fund or our ongoing sponsorship of Herts Pride. But this sense of community also extends to our fellow colleagues in the housing industry, which is why we’re particularly proud of our support of the construction charity Building Heroes.
For anyone who isn’t familiar, Building Heroes is a non-profit that helps to recruit, reskill and redeploy ex-military professionals within the construction industry. So far more than 2,200 individuals on a Building Heroes course have graduated into a career in the construction industry.
So where do we come in?
Well, recently we hosted a dozen Building Heroes, who shadowed members of our Gateway Repairs Team for the day. In shadowing our operatives these individuals are given the chance to experience an ‘on-site’ environment and learn useful tricks of the trade from one of our valued team members. This ‘live’ experience is an integral part of the training course and the transition back into civilian life.
We’re hoping to host more Building Heroes throughout 2023, giving them a useful taster of the construction industry and maybe even tempting a few into joining the Watford Community Housing family!
