In December, staff from Watford Community Housing raised just under £200 in donations for the West Herts Hospitals Charity, supporting families in hospital over the festive period.

Members of Watford Community Housing’s equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) group believe that Christmas is the ideal time to support those in need and give back to the community, and so they decided to team up with West Herts Hospitals Charity to give donations to families on their Neonatal and Maternity wards.

These gifts were part of their Christmas Smiles Appeal to spread festive joy around their local hospitals this Christmas, including patients at Watford General, Hemel Hempstead, and St Albans City Hospitals.

Thanks to the generosity of staff, Watford Community Housing raised £180 to spend on gifts for parents and babies who were spending time in the wards away from home. The gifts included sensory teethers, weaning spoons, hand cream and lip balm sets for the parents, as well as some chocolate for the ward nurses to thank them for their incredible work.

On 2 December, representatives from Watford Community Housing met with staff from the charity to give them the donations.

Ilana Hartal, Database & Fundraising Administrator for West Herts Hospitals Charity, said: “‘We are delighted that Watford Community Housing decided to contribute towards the maternity wards for our Christmas Smiles Appeal, their generosity is very important to us and is really appreciated among our patients!”
